Dhaka, Mar 28 (bdnews24.com) - Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League authorities have postponed the tournament after Abahani alleged inclusion of an 'illegal player' against Victoria and refused to play a match on Wednesday.
Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) announced the postponement in a media release undersigned by its member secretary Iqbal Yusuf Chowdhury.
The media release said the tournament has been suspended for unavoidable reasons.
Defending champions Abahani refused playing Wednesday's match against Victoria as they included Pakistani player Mohammad Yousuf, who joined the team allegedly with a fake transfer certificate from Mohammedan.
The CCDM then declared Victoria winners of the match.
After playing for Mohammedan in the last season, Yusuf joined Victoria in the current season, even though Mohammedan claim he belongs to them.
After seeing Yousuf about to play against Abahani on Wednesday, Mohammedan sent letters to BCB and CCDM, saying that they would not play in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Abahani threatened that they would go to court if CCDM took steps against them without clearing their position over Yousuf.
The decision to postpone the tournament was the last move of the drama over the issue.
The two top teams of the country, Abahani and Mohammedan, have many other allegations against CCDM, which is criticised for demoting Surjo Tarun to the First Division.
Asked about the issues, CCDM member secretary Iqbal said, "We have a meeting on Mar 31. We'll discuss the matters there. I don't want to make any more comment."
Earlier, the tournament had been deferred because of the Bangladesh Premier League and Bangladesh A team's series against England Lions.
It was scheduled to end on Apr 6.
Old DOHS, Victoria and Gazi Tanks are on top of the point table. Abahani, Mohammedan and Sheikh Jamal share third position.
