Dhaka, Oct 6 (bdnews24.com)- Brothers Union and Indira Road Krira Chakra have been relegated to the first division cricket league.
The decision came as the two teams did not turn up for the relegation league match at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Thursday.
Though they did not go to play the match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not take any instant decision. And despite following the policy of waiting for the next two matches as per the fixture, they backtracked from it.
At a meeting Saturday, stern action was taken against the two clubs. The meeting decided to relegate Brothers Union and Indira Road Krira Chakra to the first division from the premier cricket.
Chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Gazi Ashraf Lipu made the disclosure to bdnews24.com after the meeting.
As per the fixture, City Club and Brothers Union were to play a match at Mirpur on Sunday. But following the decision, Lipu did not see any need to arrange the remaining two matches in the incomplete relegation league of the last season's premier cricket.
Lipu said, "There is no rule saying that more than two clubs can be relegated. So, it may be said that City Club is the beneficiary."
The CCDM chairman said that the Board president, Major General Sina Ibn Jamali had consented to the relegation of Brothers Union and Indira Road Krira Chakra to the first division.
