Dhaka, May 6 (bdnews24.com) – Former Bangladesh skipper Akram Khan has been appointed selector in place of outgoing Golam Nawsher Prince.
The decision was taken Sunday at a meeting of the performance evaluation committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as Prince, one of three selectors, tendered his resignation on April 18 citing personal ground.
Akram Khan is expected to join the Faruque Ahmed- led selection committee on June 1 as Prince will be on the committee on May 31.
The four-year tenures of Faruque Ahmed and Athar Ali expire on July 31.
"It is a thankless job and you can't avoid the criticism doing this job and success depends on how much you accept the criticism in a good way," said Khan, who led the Bangladesh team to clinch the ICC Trophy in 1997.
"I will try to handle my new task successfully in the way I passed my cricket career." said Khan, who played 44 ODIs to score 976 and eight tests to make 259 in 16 innings.
Golam Nawser Prince said, "It was a job of tension. We took the charge of the team after a disastrous 2003 World Cup campaign, But I am now happy as the team is in a standard position as expected."
"If the BCB wants me in future, I will respond certainly," said the former national paceman, who is expected to leave Bangladesh soon for the United States of America to live there permanently.
