Three student organisations have staged separate protest marches on the Dhaka University campus.

Islami Chhatra Shibir, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Bangladesh Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad hold their rallies around 8pm at different parts of the campus.

Shibir and Chhatra Sangsad called for the arrest of those involved in the attack on the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) rally in Gopalganj.

Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, protested the killing of a BNP leader in Cox’s Bazar, accusing Jamaat-e-Islami of orchestrating the attack.

Shibir activists started from the university’s central mosque and march to the Raju Sculpture via the VC Chattar.

Abu Sadik Kayem, central literary and publication secretary of the organisation, said at the rally: “Hasina and her cohorts have been given shelter in Gopalganj.

“In this independent country, they have no place.”

He called on the interim government to step down if it could not ensure justice. “The student masses are ready to take over.”

Chhatra Sangsad began its procession from DAS corner, circled the VC Chattar, and returned to the starting point.

Its activists called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the Gopalganj violence.

Chhatra Dal organised a torch procession starting at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and ending near Rokeya Hall, passing through Modhur Canteen and the VC Chattar.

BM Kawser, general secretary of Chhatra Dal’s Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit, led the procession.

He added that the protest responded to the killing of Rahim Shikdar, whom he described as a frontline fighter of the July Uprising.

Kawser said the Jamaat had “derailed” what was supposed to be a new political beginning after Aug 5.

“They must be brought to justice,” he added.
