Daffodil Institute of IT (DIIT) has laid the foundation stone of its permanent campus at Green Model Town in Dhaka’s Manda, marking a new phase in the institution’s expansion and academic development.
The foundation stone was laid on Saturday by Prof ASM Amanullah, vice-chancellor of National University, Bangladesh, who attended the ceremony as chief guest.
The event was presided over by Md Sabur Khan, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University and Daffodil Group, DIIT said in a statement.
Among others present were Prof Md Al Amin, chairman of the governing body of DIIT; Md Nuruzzaman, chief executive officer of Daffodil Group; Prof Md Mostafa Kamal, advisor to DIIT; and Prof Md Sakhawat Hossain, principal of DIIT.
Academicians, alumni, students and invited guests attended the programme, which organisers described as a milestone in DIIT’s long-term vision for academic growth and innovation.
Speaking at the event, Prof Amanullah said National University has prioritised skill-based and employment-oriented education as part of efforts to address unemployment and meet global labour market demands.
He said the government has undertaken an initiative to produce 200,000 skilled graduates annually and has also launched a programme to train 50,000 women each year as technically skilled freelancers.
The vice-chancellor noted that the United Arab Emirates alone requires around 25,000 skilled graduates in hospitality management every year and said institutions affiliated with National University could help tap into that demand.
He said institutions such as DIIT have already played an important role in producing skilled graduates and expressed hope that they would continue to contribute in the future, adding that National University would extend its support.
In his presidential address, Sabur Khan said higher education had expanded across the country through National University since its establishment under former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
He stressed the importance of developing students’ skills to enable them to compete effectively in both domestic and international job markets.
The permanent campus is expected to provide modern facilities for teaching, learning, research and student development, supporting DIIT’s focus on academic excellence, innovation and industry-oriented education.
The institution said it remains committed to producing competent graduates and contributing to the advancement of education and national development in Bangladesh.
