The clock has ticked well past midnight, but the counting of votes in the DUCSU election is yet to finish.
At 1am on Wednesday, Shahidul Jahid, the returning officer on duty at the University Laboratory School polling centre said students from Shamsunnahar Hall had cast ballots at the centre.
The scanning of the ballots is nearly complete, he added.
Once the scanning is complete, the results for the hall union and DUCSU polls will be announced by the central election authority.
Simab Nazir Ahmed, the election officer on duty at the university’s Physical Education Centre, said the scanning of ballots at the polling centre is nearing its end and that the results can be announced soon.
Prof SM Shamim Reza, the head of the Udayan School centre, said around 11pm that students from four residential halls had cast ballots at the centre. Initially, the ballots for the hall union elections were scanned. One DUCSU ballot had also been scanned alongside them.
“But we have not started the count yet, which we had told you before. We are finishing scanning (the hall union ballots).”
The university’s Returning Officer’s Office said the combined results will be made available after the results from all of the centres come in.
The DUCSU and hall union polls were held from 8am to 4pm on Tuesday at 810 booths in eight polling centres. The ballots were then gathered and the counting process began.
Students were able to vote on six separate ballots -- one on the DUCSU vice president and general secretary, one on the assistant general secretary, two ballots on the secretary posts, and one ballot on the member posts.
A total of 471 candidates are vying for the 28 DUCSU positions.
The election authorities say they believe the turnout among the nearly 40,000 eligible voters is over 70 percent.
