Gas supply to the industrial sector has seen a 21 percent increase over the past four months, according to Petrobangla.
The figure was reported in a statement issued by the energy ministry on Monday in response to recent media coverage highlighting complaints from industrialists regarding gas shortages.
“Petrobangla has taken note of misleading statements made by representatives of industry-related associations published in various newspapers concerning gas supply to industrial units. In response, we are presenting the actual status of gas supply to the industrial sector.”
According to the statement, the average daily gas supply to industries during January–April 2024 was 823 million cubic feet. In contrast, during the same period in 2025, the average daily supply increased to 997 million cubic feet, representing a 21 percent rise compared with the previous year.
It also noted the breakdown of gas supplied to industries and for captive (in-house power generation) use during both January–April 2024 and January–April 2025.
Additionally, the ministry said that six extra LNG cargoes were arranged this year to boost supply. The import cost per cubic metre of this LNG is around Tk 65.
Currently, gas is priced at Tk 30 per cubic metre for industrial consumers and Tk 31.50 for captive users. This means the government is providing a subsidy of Tk 35 per cubic metre on the additional gas being supplied.
Due to this extra LNG import and adjustments in category-wise distribution, the ministry said that an additional 150 million cubic feet of gas per day will be supplied starting from May 28.
