Dhaka, April 12 (BDNEWS) – Bangladesh-British Chamber of Commerce (BBCC) Wednesday emphasised the need for establishing industrial park in Sylhet for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), especially by the non-resident Sylhetis, in the country.
The views came up at an opinion-exchange meeting between the BBCC and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) held in Dhaka.
BBCC chairman Dr Wali Tasar Uddin is leading a 25-member delegation of BBCC to explore investment opportunity in Bangladesh.
Director General of BBCC Aziz-ur-Rahman, Adviser of South Asia, Commonwealth Business Council Arif Zaman, MLIM Trade Management Saquat Ali, FBCCI director Abdur Rouf Chowdhury and Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) spoke in the meeting with acting president of FBCCI Mohammed Ali was in chair.
The FBCCI leaders emphasised on creating a long-term partnership with BBCC, FBCCI and SCCI to advocate removing obstacles in way of inflow of investment.
Tasar Uddin said, "We are interested to develop a action plan for investing in Sylhet".
Rouf Chowdhury said, " We want large investment in Bangladesh from nonresident Bangladeshi, not only individually but also by group."
Arif Zaman said, "We want to create business brand in different sectors in South Asia." Bangladesh is absolutely vital to link the entire South Asia, he added.
BBCC sources said the trade and investment mission desires to explore joint collaboration with the government and other business organisations to promote trade and commerce between Bangladesh and UK.
BBCC, established in 1991, organised a single country trade fair 'EXPO Bangladesh 2005' in London to promote Bangladeshi products in the UK.
Bangladesh exported goods to UK worth US $943 million and imported from UK $ 286 million during 2004-05.
