Sonali chicken prices have surged over the past week, while broiler chicken rates have held steady.
During the same period, potato prices have also edged higher.
In contrast, the price of farm-produced chicken eggs has fallen.
Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, vegetable prices had gone up slightly, reportedly “due to rain,” and those elevated rates have persisted.
On Friday, a public holiday, visits to Mohammadpur’s Town Hall, Krishi Market, and Sat Masjid Road markets found Sonali chicken being sold at Tk 330 to Tk 340 per kg.
Last week, Sonali chicken was priced at Tk 280 per kg, while rates before Eid ranged between Tk 250 and Tk 260—marking a total increase of around Tk 70 per kg.
At Mohammadpur’s Town Hall market, Aminur Rahman, a private sector employee, was seen buying Sonali chicken.
Frustrated by the price hike, he expressed his dissatisfaction but ultimately paid Tk 330 per kg.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, he said: “The price of Sonali chicken has gone up by Tk 50 in just a week. For a middle-class family like ours, such price hikes cause real hardship.”
Abdur Hakim, a vendor at a shop in the Sat Masjid Road market, said the price of Sonali chicken is rising again.
“It sold a lot during Eid, and prices were lower last week. But over the past two to three days, the price has gone up again,” he said.
“Fewer chickens are coming from different districts. That’s why the price is high.”
As of Friday, broiler chicken was being sold at Tk 170 per kg, consistent with the previous week’s range of Tk 170 to Tk 180.
Red layer chicken is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 310, White layer chicken at Tk 280 to Tk 290, and Deshi chicken at Tk 650 to Tk 660 per kg.
