“We are moving forward,” Dan Mozena said on Monday at a press briefing after returning from his three-week US visit.
The US after Jan 5 parliamentary elections, which the opposition had boycotted, called for fresh elections as soon as possible with a political consensus.
That triggered speculations that US is unhappy with the ruling Awami League-led government.
“We have a partnership with Bangladesh,” the ambassador said replying to a question. “We’ll keep developing the relationships. Sky will be the limit.”
He, however, said the US position on Jan 5 polls remained unchanged.
He called upon political parties not to resort to violence and give political space and use the space peacefully.
Mozena said during his visit to US he met with Bangladesh communities in different states, apart from his meeting with at least four congressmen.
He said during his interactions with Bangladesh communities he urged them to play “important role to bolster the relationship between the two countries”.
“They are half a million in number,” he said. “They are successful, so they can play a role.”
He said he also encouraged them to invest in Bangladesh.
He said they can also play a role of mentor back in Bangladesh.
“They have lot of experiences. They have lot of know-how, lot of connections,” he said. “They can help in mentoring entrepreneurship.”
The envoy said global communities have much interest in Bangladesh due to its large number of population and strategic location.
Ahead of the first anniversary of Rana Plaza collapse, he hoped that Bangladesh would never experience such disaster.
Last year on Apr 24, the worst-ever building collapse killed more than 1100 people, mostly garment workers.
