Dhaka, Apr 7 (bdnews24.com)—The committee investigating the recent crash in the capital market has submitted its findings to finance minister A M A Muhith.
Committee chairman Khondker Ibrahim Khaled handed over the report to Muhith at his Minto Road official residence on Thursday morning, Khaled told journalists.
He declined comments on the finds, telling bdnews24.com: "The finance minister will brief journalists [about the report] in the afternoon."
On media reports quoting Khaled that the panel had recommended action against some 300 people responsible for the debacle that triggered violent street protests by small investors, the career-banker said, "We have no headache about any person."
"We have made recommendations on how to improve the [capital] market and make it stable," said Khaled, also the chairman of Bangladesh Krishi Bank.
Journalists rushed to the finance ministry in the morning on information that the report will be submitted there, but the committee went straight to Muhith's residence.
Finance ministry's senior information officer Shahedur Rahman told bdnews24.com that the committee submitted the report to Muhith around 9:30am.
The four-member committee, formed on Jan 25 this year after the December-January market crash, was given two months to submit the report.
Other members of the committee are Toufic Ahmad Choudhury, Mohamed Abdul Baree and Nihat Kabir.
Khaled, before the formation of the probe body, had told the media that 10-15 politician-businessmen in the Awami League-BNP looted some Tk 150 billion from the stock market and that they would never reinvest the money.
However, on being selected chief of the probe body, he had told bdnews24.com that his comments came upon news reports. "I'll forget these during the investigation."
