Dhaka, Aug 18 (bdnews24.com) — Asmani Begum, whose 'poverty' is said to had driven poet Jasim Uddin into writing his legendary piece of pastoral poem 'Asmani', has died from heart and kidney diseases.
She breathed her last at his residence at Rasulpur village in Faridpur around 2:45am on Saturday. She was 80-plus.
She leaves behind five daughters and a son. Her daughter Alyea Begum said she would be buried beside her husband Hashem Uddin Mandal's grave in their family graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza after the Zohr prayers.
Asmani had suffered a stroke towards the end of Jun and was rushed to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
She had been receiving treatment for heart diseases at the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital since Jun 24. Both her kidneys had become dysfunctional.
Suffering from multiple diseases, Asmani fell ill on Jun 23 at her village home in Rasulpur, a place immortalised through the stroke of the great poet's pen.
Believed to be upset with the 'poverty' of Asmani, poet Jasim Uddin wrote:
If you want to see Asmani, Please go to the small house of Rahimuddi at Rasulpur.
