Dhaka, Jan 19 (bdnews24.com) — The High Court has dismissed graft cases against opposition leaders and former MPs M A Hashem and Mosaddek Ali Falu.
The bench of justices A K Fazlur Rahman and Krishna Debnath issued the order on Thursday after separate final hearings on the cases filed against them for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information thereof in the statements submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
After the verdicts to scrap the cases were delivered, ACC lawyer Mohammad Khurshid Alam Khan told bdnews24.com: "We'll go to the Appellate Division against the rules."
The ACC in 2007 filed the cases against the BNP leaders accusing them of accumulating wealth beyond known income and concealing information about the wealth.
The commission had on Feb 18, 2007 sent a notice to Falu to submit his wealth statement. The case was filed against him on July 8 the same year with the Motijheel Police Station. The charge-sheet in the case was submitted on Feb 14, 2008.
ACC asked Partex group chairman Hashem on July 3, 2007 to submit his wealth statement, and filed the graft case against him on Dec 5 the same year with the Ramna Police Station. The charge-sheet was submitted on Sep 30 the following year.
The High Court on July 20, 2009 had stayed the proceedings of the cases as the accused filed petition to scrap the cases. The court also asked ACC why the cases should not be scrapped.
