Dhaka, Feb 28 (BDNEWS) – People from all walks of life and workers of different social, cultural and political organisations Monday paid a glowing tribute to language movement activist and music legend Abdul Latif at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Later the body of Abdul Latif was taken to Dhaka University Central Mosque. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held there after Johr prayers. After the Namaz-e-Janaza, the body was taken to Mirpur Intellectuals Graveyard for burial.
The tributes at the Central Shaheed Minar started at 11am. Language movement hero Abdul Matin, economist Prof Mozaffar Ahmed, artist Qayyum Chowdhury, Kamal Lohani, the first poem-writer on Ekushey Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury, architect Rabiul Hussain, poet Rafiq Azad, Ramendu Mazumdar, Asaduzzaman Noor, Khushi Kabir and other poets, artists, litterateurs, journalists and people from all walks of life paid their last respects to the deceased.
Awami League, Gono Forum, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Jatya Party, Sramik Krishak Samajbadi Dal, and the Cultural Affairs Ministry led by the state minister Begum Selima Rahman paid tributes to late Abdul Latif.
Dhaka University Teachers Association, Sammilito Sanskritik Jote, the National Museum, Bangla Academy, Shilpakala Academy, Abritti Samannay Parishad, Chhayanat, Jatyo Kabita Parishad, Rishij, Patha Natak Parishad, Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, Bangladesh Shangit Parishad, Nazrul Shangit Shilpi Parishad, Awami Volunteers League, BCL, Bangabandhu Sanskritik Jote, Bangladesh Rabindra Shangit Shilpi Sangstha, Gano Sanskriti Front, Gano Shilpi, Kendrio Khelaghar Ashar, Theatre, Bangladesh Lokshangit Parishad, Bengal Foundation, Barishal Division Samity and other organisations paid tributes by placing wreaths.
The Qulkhwani of late Abdul Latif will be held at Party Palace Community Centre of Shyamoli after Asr prayer Tuesday. Sammilito Sanskritik Jote will hold a civic condolence meeting at the Central Shaheed Minar on March 4.
