Three Supreme Court lawyers have filed a petition with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate corruption involving “billions of taka” against three aides of two separate advisors of the interim government.
On Sunday, a complaint was filed at the ACC's Segunbagicha office against Moazzem Hossain, former assistant private secretary of Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, who is also the local government advisor, and Mahmudul Hasan, current PO of Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum, and former PO Tuhin Farabi, who is a student representative.
The Supreme Court lawyers who lodged the complaint are Nadim Mahmud, Eyasin Alfaz and Mohammad Shafiqul Islam.
Moazzem and Tuhin were recently acquitted of corruption charges.
Hours earlier, the ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain announced that the anti-graft agency was looking into the corruption allegations against Moazzem and Tuhin.
After filing the complaint, lawyer Eyasin said: “We have requested that an investigation be started within 10 workdays against them for alleged corruption of [embezzling] billions of taka through lobbying.”
According to the charges, “Complaints of misappropriating billions of taka through lobbying trade in different ministries and government offices has been raised against Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain’s former APS Moazzem Hossain.”
Similar complaints exist against Tuhin and Mahmudul, he said.
“They assisted in the rehabilitation of different government officials, including doctors and engineers, in exchange for money and lobbied for them in different ministries, according to media reports,” Eyasin said.
Moazzem was involved in lobbying for the recruitment and transfer of engineers in different offices, including the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), according to the complaint.
He was also engaged in lobbying for contractors at home, water resources ministries, the housing department, and the Roads and Highways Department, it added.
