A visiting African delegation has held daylong discussions and exchanges with officials of the Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) in Dhaka.
The session took place on Saturday at a hotel in Gulshan, where participants shared experiences and explored development initiatives.
The delegation, from Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon and Gambia, arrived in Dhaka on Sept 17 under the Islamic Development Bank’s project on capacity development in Zakat, Waqf and Islamic social finance.
They are scheduled to stay in Bangladesh until Sept 26.
As part of the visit, the team joined multiple activities with CZM officials. The programme began with introductions and a presentation on Bangladesh.
Zakariya Hossain, head of Corporate Affairs at CZM, presented a summary on Bangladesh before discussions on health, education and livelihood-based programmes. A documentary was also screened.
CZM Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Ayub Miah briefed the delegation on multiple initiatives and answered questions from participants. The team also met students receiving scholarships from CZM.
The delegation later held meetings with members of the CZM board of directors, advisory council, executive committee, Women’s Forum and Shariah Supervisory Board.
At the session, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, deputy secretary general of the West African Zakat and Waqf Forum, delivered a keynote paper.
Representatives from Nigeria, Gambia, Senegal and Cameroon highlighted their countries’ Zakat and Waqf-based initiatives and responded to questions during the exchange.
