The boundaries of the 300 seats being contested in the upcoming general election have been redrawn, with Gazipur gaining an additional seat and Bagerhat losing one.
A final gazette of the constituency boundaries was issued on Thursday evening, according to Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.According to notice, Gazipur will have six seats after the change while Bagerhat will now have three.
The EC senior secretary said the notice on the boundaries of the parliamentary seats will now be published in the form of a gazette.
A specialised committee of the EC worked on the boundaries for 13th parliamentary elections.
After scrutiny and selection based on their report, the EC published a draft of the boundaries of the 300 seats on Jul 30.
The new draft of the boundaries was published with minor changes to the constituencies of 39 seats while maintaining the boundaries of 261 seats from the 12th Parliament.
Among the changes was the proposed increase in the seats in Gazipur and the reduction of the seats in Bagerhat.
The EC then gave until Aug 10 for claims and objections to the constituency boundaries.
The EC senior secretary said a total of 1,893 objections and recommendations were received regarding the draft.
After that, the EC first heard the main objections. Hearings on the recommendations, objections and applications regarding the boundaries of the proposed constituencies were held for four consecutive days from Aug 24-27.
The final list has now been published after these were settled.
