Bangladesh has sent emergency medicines and medical supplies to Iran as humanitarian assistance and solidarity support for civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.
On Thursday, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society handed over the consignment at the Iranian embassy in Dhaka during a formal ceremony, with officials from both sides in attendance.
Iran’s Ambassador to Dhaka Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi received the supplies from Red Crescent Secretary General Kabir M Ashraf Alam, while Foreign Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam represented the government.
The foreign ministry says the support follows a Tk 10 million grant provided by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Red Crescent on Apr 6 for purchasing urgent medicines and medical equipment for injured people in Iran.
During the handover, Secretary Nazrul voiced concern over the staggering loss of life and property across the Middle East.
He maintained that Bangladesh remains committed to peace, expressing hope that diplomatic channels would secure a peaceful resolution and lasting regional stability.
The Iranian ambassador thanked Bangladesh for its sympathy and support during a difficult time and expressed gratitude to Tarique, citing the “close and friendly” relations between the two countries.
Red Crescent’s Kabir Ashraf said the organisation works globally for affected communities and views participation in humanitarian support during wartime as part of its core responsibility.
