The flood situation in some parts of Chattogram remains unchanged, but certain unions in Mirsharai Upazila are now experiencing flooding.
According to the Mirsharai Upazila administration, the rising waters of the Feni River are causing floods in this sub-district, affecting seven out of the 16 unions.
Upazila chief executive or UNO, of Mirsharai Mahfuza Zerin told bdnews24.com that many residents of the Karer Hat, Hinguli, Zorarganj, Dhum, Osmanpur, Ichhakhali, and Katachhara unions have been inundated.
"The Feni River began rising on Thursday, leading to inundation of Katachhara Union, which had not previously experienced flooding. Water levels are also rising in many other areas," she added.
Various educational institutions and Union Parishad offices in the affected unions are being used as shelters, with approximately 60,000 people seeking refuge.
Boats are being deployed to rescue flood victims from different areas.
Many of those affected are staying with relatives, while the local administration, affluent individuals, and volunteers are contributing to the rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, in parts of Fatikchhari and Hathazari Upazilas, water levels have begun to recede, though many people remain stranded.
According to the district relief and rehabilitation office, 262,400 people from 50,706 families across 98 unions are still trapped in floodwaters in various Upazilas of Chattogram.
In response, 1,300 tons of rice and Tk 3.5 million have been allocated for the victims.
The Upazila administration has reported that five people, including a child, have died from drowning and electrocution in Rangunia Upazila, as well as in Fatikchhari and Hathazari.
