A delegation led by Makoto Sato, chief executive and vice-president for the Asia Pacific region of Mitsui & Co, one of Japan’s largest trading and investment companies, has met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning, his Deputy Press Secretary Mostafa Zulfiquar Hasan said.

“The representatives discussed prospects for expanding investment in various sectors in Bangladesh,” he added.

The four-member delegation also included Takanobu Murayama, chief strategy officer of the Asia Pacific Business Unit; Kenichiro Kawamoto, country chairperson of Mitsui Bangladesh; and Md Moniruzzaman, deputy general manager of the company’s Dhaka office.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, the prime minister’s advisor on economic and planning affairs Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, special assistant to the prime minister Shakirul Islam Khan, and Finance Secretary Khairuzzaman Mozumder were present at the meeting.

According to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing, the discussions focused on investment opportunities and expansion in sectors including food, agriculture, energy and ICT.

During the meeting, the government informed the Japanese delegation that it is pursuing investment-friendly policies and is committed to providing full support to attract and expand foreign investment.

The government also highlighted its initiative to integrate services provided by different agencies under a “one-stop service” framework to simplify business operations and approval procedures for investors, enabling faster and smoother implementation of investment projects.
