A court has imposed a travel ban on Abdus Salam Murshedy, a former MP and ex–vice-president of the Bangladesh Football Federation, who is currently in jail.
The order was issued on Sunday by a Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC told the court it was investigating allegations that Murshedy, the former MP for Khulna-4, had accumulated large sums of illegal wealth through corruption and irregularities. It said there was information suggesting he and others linked to the case were attempting to leave the country.
The commission also sought a travel ban for Murshedy’s wife, Sharmin Salam, citing similar concerns, according to court official Riaz Hossain.
The ACC argued that restricting foreign travel was necessary to ensure a proper investigation.
Murshedy was arrested on Oct 1, 2024, from the Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka after the fall of the Awami League government. He has remained in custody since then.
