Three carriages of the Padma Express have derailed at Rajshahi Railway Station after it collided with the Panchagarh-bound Banglabandha Express.
The accident took place around 2:30pm on Saturday near the station's wash pit, said Rajshahi Railway Station's wash pit supervisor Shahabul Islam.
He said the Banglabandha Express was moving towards the station from the wash pit, while the Dhaka-bound Padma Express was heading the other way.
Due to a signal malfunction, the Padma Express hit the Banglabandha Express, leading to the derailment, he said.
"Three carriages of the Padma Express derailed and sustained damage. However, as both trains were empty, there were no casualties," he added.
Rajshahi Railway Station Manager Shahidul Alam said, "Padma Express was scheduled to leave for Dhaka at 4pm. Since three of its carriages have derailed, it will remain suspended until a relief train arrives."
He added, "A relief train has already departed from Ishwardi. While the Padma Express remains parked on the station's outer line, other train services continue uninterrupted."
