Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has met with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
The Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) said the meeting was held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday. However, the details of the meeting were not disclosed.
Earlier in the day, Dar arrived in Dhaka as part of the interim government’s efforts to normalise relations with Pakistan.
The visit of a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh after about 13 years led to the signing of a visa waiver agreement for holders of official and diplomatic passports, and five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two nations, including the establishment of a Joint Working Group on trade and cultural exchanges, and cooperation between foreign service academies, and state news agencies.
Dar has also met with Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman at 2pm on Sunday at the latter’s Bashundhara residence.
In a briefing after the meeting, Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said: “During the meeting, the Ameer-e-Jamaat spoke about the unity of the Muslim ummah, particularly the oppression and persecution faced by Hamas in Palestine.
“He drew the attention of the Pakistani deputy prime minister to the foreign ministers’ meeting of Muslim countries in Jeddah tomorrow, emphasising the need for the Muslim world to play a united and strong role.”
Earlier on Saturday, a five-member delegation led by Taher met with Dar at the High Commission for Pakistan in Gulshan.
