India and Bangladesh can achieve much for each other and the region by transforming their geographical proximity into new opportunities, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has said.
Speaking at India’s Republic Day celebration in Dhaka on Saturday, he highlighted the countries’ extensive bilateral cooperation.
“As forward-moving societies, when we work together, we can transform our geographical proximity into new opportunities for each other and for our region,” he said.
He cited multiple examples of successful collaboration, noting that such partnerships have brought tangible benefits to people and businesses on both sides.
“Moving forward, these successes inspire us to seek even more forward-looking, and future-ready collaborations,” Verma added.
The high commissioner emphasised that this cooperation is anchored in shared aspirations for prosperity, progress, and partnership.
“Partnership that is rooted in trust; partnership that is driven by innovation and technology; and a partnership that is nurtured and sustained by mutual interest, mutual benefit, and mutual sensitivity,” he said.
Verma also highlighted the potential of both nations as fast-growing economies powered by young, skilled, and innovative populations.
“India and Bangladesh are capable of becoming catalysts for each other’s sustainable growth, enablers of each other’s future prosperity, and anchors for robust regional integration,” he said.
He outlined key areas for joint development:
Building regional value chains, shared digital ecosystems, and energy corridors
Ensuring the region’s energy future is clean, affordable, and secure
Tackling environmental sustainability and climate change challenges for the shared ecology
Reflecting on the long-standing partnership between the two countries, Verma said, “As we gather today to commemorate India’s Republic Day, we reaffirm the value of our long-standing partnership with Bangladesh and wish the people of Bangladesh peace, prosperity, and success on their journey ahead.
“We have and will continue to support a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh,” he added
