Two of the five tankers, carrying 169,000 tonnes of refined diesel and octane, are being unloaded at Chittagong Port as Bangladesh reels from a fuel crisis and price hike amid the Middle East tension.
Three of the vessels entered the port's waters on Monday, said Farzin Hasan Moumita, assistant manager (public relations) for the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
Diesel is being unloaded from the two ships -- MT Oaktree and MT Cape Bonnie -- at the port's Dolphin Jetty.
MT Oaktree and MT Cape Bonnie arrived in Bangladesh from Malaysia carrying 35,000 and 33,000 tonnes of diesel respectively.
Of the latest vessels, “MT Lian Song Hu” arrived with 41,000 tonnes of diesel, “MT Pacific Indigo 33,000 tonnes of diesel and “MT Nave Cielo” with 27,000 tonnes of octane.
The state-run BPC says the tankers will also be unloaded soon.
