A Magura court has set Saturday to deliver the verdict in the much-discussed child rape and murder case in Magura, just two months and eleven days after the incident.
The trial has reached its final stage in a relatively short period, raising expectations for swift justice.
On Mar 6, the 8-year-old child from Magura’s Sreepur Upazila was allegedly raped while visiting her sister's house.
A week later, she died at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

On Apr 13, the investigation officer, Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Alauddin, submitted the charge sheet at the Magura Chief Judicial Magistrates Court.
The four accused in the case are: the father-in-law of the victim’s sister, Hitu Sheikh; his sons Sojib Sheikh and Ratul Sheikh; and his wife, Zaheda Begum. They are currently behind bars.
Hitu Sheikh gave a confessional statement to the court under Section 164.
He, however, drew the attention of journalists several times during the testimony in the case and said he was not involved in the incident.
Public Prosecutor Monirul Islam Mukul said, “The prosecution has successfully proven that the child’s death resulted from the rape.
“We are hopeful the court will deliver justice,” he added. “Hitu Sheikh will receive the maximum punishment, and the others will be sentenced based on their involvement.”
District Superintendent of Police Mina Mahmud said security has been tightened around the court premises ahead of the verdict.
“Additional police will be deployed in and around the court premises from Saturday morning,” the officer added.
