Inqilab Moncho has demanded that the murderers of its convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi be brought to justice before the 13th national election and referendum takes place.
The group will continue to protest in the streets until justice is delivered, its Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber said at a media briefing on Monday.
“You can't get away without informing [the people] who the murderer of Hadi was by just by holding an election -- this is not done. Justice [for Hadi] must be ensured before the election. Otherwise, no election will take place.”
"Inqilab Moncho will not leave the streets until the murderers and their backers are brought to justice."
The group also demanded the formation of a “judicial tribunal” involving foreign intelligence agencies like the FBI.
“You have to form a judicial tribunal soon and in that case, you must involve intelligence agencies like the FBI and Scotland Yard.
Hadi, who rose to prominence through the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, announced that he would contest the 13th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency.
He was shot at close range on Dec 12 while travelling by rickshaw in Dhaka's Bijoynagar. Police said two assailants arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire and fled the scene.
He was initially taken in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital, where he was treated in intensive care.
On Dec 15, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced medical treatment. He later died there.
Following a funeral prayer service at the South Plaza of the parliament complex on Saturday, Hadi was laid to rest beside the grave of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
During the briefing, Inqilab Moncho said it would stage a rally as announced earlier and also share details about their upcoming protest programmes there.
"We have called for a protest march at 3pm on behalf of Inqilab Moncho, and we will announce our plans moving forward --whether we stand in support of the government or begin a protest movement to oust this government."
