Dhaka, Sep 29 (bdnews24.com) -- M Abdul Aziz, the cabinet secretary, and Abdul Karim, the principal secretary to the prime minister, spent their last business day on Thursday after more than three decades in the Bangladesh Civil Service.
Karim, who was awarded a two-year extension after being appointed to the top PMO job, ended his tenure ended on Thursday.
Aziz, who also enjoyed two extra years in civil service, would retire on Sep 30, but bade bye to his colleagues at the Cabinet Division on Thursday, the last business day of the week.
The government has not named their successors, leading to speculations in the civil service.
Both 1979 recruits, Aziz and Karim had served as secretaries at different ministries.
Aziz worked at agriculture ministry, serving under former caretaker adviser Dr C S Karim, before his appointment as the "number one civilian", a position just above the army chief in the warrant of precedence.
Karim had been secretary at the ministries of fisheries, commerce, internal resources division (NBR chief) and home.
In what could be their last public appearance, both civil servants were present at the airport to greet prime minister Sheikh Hasina returning home after a 11-day UN trip.
