Dhaka, March 7 (bdnews24.com) - Army and BDR personnel will not be part of security arrangements for upcoming by-elections on April 2 and deferred Upazila polls on April 6, the chief election commissioner said on Saturday.
Other agencies will be deployed five days ahead of voting and for two days after, ATM Shamsul Huda told reporters after a meeting with top law enforcement officials in the city.
Armed police battalions and Rapid Action Battalion will act as striking forces, he said.
Ansar and police personnel will be stationed in voting centres, he added.
Five judicial magistrates will work in each polling area for both sets of elections, he said.
By-elections will be held in seven constituencies -- Rangpur-3, Rangpur-6, Kurigram-2, Bogra-6, Bogra-7, Bagerhat-1 and Kishoreganj-6 -- vacated by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, president Zillur Rahman, leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad.
Deferred polls will be held in six Upazila that were cancelled on or before the Jan 22 elections due to irregularities. Suspended polls in 18 voting centres will be held on March 16.
