Dhaka, Jan 16 (bdnews24.com) – Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed chose another of his close relatives and a naturalised US citizen Tuesday to expand his interim cabinet to full strength.
Five advisers to the caretaker government were named, three sworn in at the Bangabhaban in the evening, three days after the first five took charge.
The new three were: Ayub Quaderi, a former secretary, Anwarul Iqbal, a just-retired police officer and RAB chief, and Matiur Rahman, a physician and an AIDS specialist in the army who retired as major general.
Iqbal was promoted to inspector general of police after the caretaker government of President Iajuddin Ahmed took over. Iqbal was later removed as IGP and made a secretary. He immediately resigned.
Dr Iftekher Ahmed Chowdhury, a career diplomat and currently Bangladesh ambassador to the United Nations, who has also been named for the interim authority, is abroad.
Dr Chowdhury is brother of chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed's wife Nina.
Ambassador Chowdhury became the second Fakhruddin relative in the cabinet after Geeteara Safiya Choudhury.
Geeteara is Nina's sister-in-law.
Faiz Khan, an IT specialist and consultant who worked for Customs Administration and Modernisation Project (CAMP) at NBR, is a US citizen and generally resident in that country.
Chowdhury and Khan will take oath later.
