The Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the results of the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) written examinations, with 3,631 candidates clearing the test.
PSC Public Relations Officer SM Motiur Rahman confirmed the information on Tuesday afternoon.
"The 3,631 candidates who have successfully passed the written examinations will now be eligible to appear for the viva voce (oral examination)," he told bdnews24.com.
The written examinations for the 47th BCS began on Nov 27 across centres in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur, and Mymensingh.
The exams for technical and professional cadres concluded on Dec 18.
The PSC initially issued the circular for the BCS written exam on Nov 28, 2024, seeking to recruit 3,487 cadre and 201 non-cadre officers.
While online applications were set to begin on the morning of Dec 10 that year, the commission abruptly suspended the process on Dec 9.
A revised circular was subsequently released on Dec 26, introducing significant structural changes.
For the first time, the age limit for applicants was increased to 32 years.
The commission also reduced both the application fee and the marks for the oral examination.
By slashing the viva marks from 200 to 100, the total marks for the BCS examination were lowered from 1,100 to 1,000.
The application window eventually opened on Dec 29, 2024, and remained active until Feb 27, 2025.
The preliminary examination, originally slated for Aug 8, 2025, faced a 43-day deferment.
It was finally held on Sept 19 across 262 centres in eight divisional cities.
Within nine days of the test, on Sept 28, the PSC published the preliminary results, declaring 10,644 candidates qualified for the written phase.
Controversy emerged when the written exam schedule was fixed for Nov 27, 2025.
Despite street protests from a section of candidates demanding a postponement, the PSC remained firm on its timeline and commenced the examinations as planned.
