ICT Advisor Nahid Islam has said poets, writers, journalists, and cultural figures accused of inciting fascism will be brought to justice.
Those involved in promoting fascism or encouraging genocide through their works will not be exempt from justice, he said at a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
According to the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, or BSS, the advisor referred to those who, through their writings or opinions, indirectly supported fascism and promoted genocide.
"Being a journalist, cultural figure, or poet will not provide immunity," warned Nahid.
When asked about murder charges against journalists, the advisor said: "The government is not filing these cases; the people are. In some cases, these cases are being filed due to personal vendettas.”
He added, “We have instructed the authorities to review these cases swiftly. Anyone found not guilty after investigation will be cleared of charges."
Nahid also said the law and order situation is gradually improving.
To ensure the swift restoration of order and public safety during this national emergency and reconstruction period, the army has been given executive megistracy powers.
"This authority is temporary, for two months, during which police will be reformed and strengthened to resume their duties," he said.
