Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has said the reform commission's recommendations are not to be imposed but for politicians to act upon.
Speaking at a meeting with political parties, he said: "We have only brought the recommendations, we have merely carried out the secretarial work for you. This is not my job; this is your job because you represent the people."
The National Consensus Commission convened at 3pm on Saturday at the Foreign Service Academy on Dhaka’s Bailey Road to discuss reports from six reform commissions.
Following his remarks, the chief advisor's media office shared a video of his speech with journalists.
As the commission’s chairman, Yunus said: "I am pleased that we have finally gathered for this long-awaited meeting. Many have been counting the days for this discussion.
"We pledge to ensure we do not dishonour the sacrifices made by students and the public. Future generations must remember the cause for which they sacrificed their lives."
This marked the first meeting between the National Consensus Commission and political parties.
Leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Liberal Democratic Party, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), Nagorik Oikya, Islami Andolon, Khelafat Majlish, Ganosamhati Andolon, Gana Odhikar Parishad, and several other political parties attended the meeting.
