Devotees in Dhaka have staged a colourful procession to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day observed by Muslims worldwide as both the birth and passing of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Saturday's rally, known as "Jashne Julus", was organised by the Anjuman-e-Rahmania Mainia Maizbhandaria and led by its chief Syed Saifuddin Ahmad Maizbhandari, who also chairs the Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP).

The procession began in the morning from the western side of the historic Suhrawardy Udyan and moved through Doel Chattar, Shikkha Bhaban and Kadam Fountain road before returning to the park for a peace rally.
From early in the day, thousands of Muslims from across the country gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan. Organisers said this year’s celebrations carried special significance as it coincided with the 1,500th anniversary of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Participants carried banners inscribed with “Ya Nabi Salam Alaika” (O Prophet, peace be upon you) and “Ya Rasul Salam Alaika” (O Messenger, peace be upon you). The crowd, clad in white punjabi and caps, waved flags bearing the Kalema, the Islamic declaration of faith, held placards and festoons, and carried a giant national flag through the streets of the capital.
Women also took part in the concluding peace rally.

A CALL FOR UNITY AND HUMANITY
Speaking at the pre-procession gathering, BSP chief Maizbhandari described the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as “a special blessing from Allah for all mankind”.
“By following his ideals, we can build a peaceful, just and welfare-oriented society,” he said.

“The Prophet taught us harmony, brotherhood and humanity. Yet today, the world is plagued by war, conflict, terrorism and inhumanity. The only path to lasting peace is to implement the teachings of the beloved Prophet.”

Maizbhandari urged people to embrace the “sacred message” of Eid-e-Miladunnabi in their personal, family and national lives, saying that only then would “peace, brotherhood and humanity spread throughout society”.
