Dhaka has asked New Delhi to investigate incidents of all border killing, identify the perpetrators, and bring them to justice.
The government formally lodged a strong protest following the death of 13-year-old Bangladeshi girl Shwarna Das by the Indian Border Security Force, or BSF.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a protest note was sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus condemned the killing and expressed deep concern in a formal protest note sent to the Indian mission on Thursday.
The ministry reminded the Indian government that such border killings are "undesirable and unwarranted" and constitute a breach of the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, 1975.
Shwarna, a resident of Kalnigarh village in West Juri Union, was fatally shot by the BSF on Sept 1 while she was near the border fence with her mother and others, attempting to cross the border illegally.
The BSF then took her body, and the remaining group sought refuge in Lalarchak village.
The Border Guard Bangladesh, or BGB, later informed Shwarna’s family of her death.
A case has been filed with the Irani Police Station in Tripura.
A flag meeting between the BGB and BSF was held on Tuesday afternoon, during which Shwarna's father, Parendra Das, identified her body.
“The Government of Bangladesh called upon the Government of India to stop the repetition of such heinous acts and conduct enquiries into all border killings, identify the responsible persons and bring them to justice,” the letter read.
