The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams scheduled for Tuesday have been suspended after a Bangladesh Air Force plane crashed into Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara.
A press release signed by Khandaker Ehsanul Kabir, president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, said that all exams for the day have been postponed as the government has declared Tuesday a day of mourning for those affected by the disaster. A new schedule for the postponed exams will be announced later.
On Monday night, an admin post on Information Advisor Mahfuj Alam's Facebook page said: "Education Advisor Sir met with Honourable Advisor of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Mahfuj Alam. Honourable Education Advisor announced the decision to postpone today's HSC exam."
A BAF fighter jet crashed into a building of Milestone School on Monday during classes. So far, 27 people – including 25 children, the pilot, and a teacher – have been killed in the incident. Another 78 people are currently hospitalised with injuries.
Following the disaster, the government declared a day of state mourning on Tuesday. The Chief Advisor’s Office also postponed all the July Rejuvenation Programmes for the next three days.
The HSC exams for Chemistry (Theoretical) Paper II, History and Culture of Islam Paper II (Humanities Branch), History Paper II, Home Management and Family Life Paper II, and Production Management and Marketing Paper II were scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
The exams for the Cumilla Education Board, the Bangladesh Technical Education Board and the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board were postponed on Jul 10 due to flooding.
All exams in the Gopalganj District under the Dhaka Education Board, as well as the madrasah and technical boards, were suspended on Jul 17 due to the curfew imposed after unrest in the area.
