The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to print the voter rolls, with the final list now being readied for nearly 128 million voters.
Voter transfers are no longer allowed, and applicants seeking corrections to their national identity cards will face delays.
This time, parliamentary polls and a referendum will be held on the same day. The election schedule is expected to be announced in the first half of December.
Election preparations require both photo and non-photo voter lists.
Candidates must purchase constituency-wise non-photo voter list CDs when collecting nomination papers.
For this, the EC must complete key preparations before the schedule is issued.
The National Identity Registration Wing (NIDW) is now preparing the final constituency-wise lists for printing.
TRANSFERS, CORRECTIONS
To finalise the voter list ahead of the elections, transfers have been halted. Even if NID corrections are in process, the results will not appear before the polls.

ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of the NIDW, said on Monday: “Since voter list generation is ongoing, the results of NID corrections will only be available after this process is complete.”
He added that voter registration will continue, but no transfers will take place before the election.
EC officials noted that if an NID is updated while the voter list is being finalised, conflicting information could prevent the person from voting.
PHOTO, NON-PHOTO ROLLS
According to the EC’s work plan:
• At least seven days before the schedule announcement, constituency-wise photo and non-photo voter lists will be sent to registration officers for verification.
• At least three days before the schedule, final verified lists will be sent to registration officers in CD or PDF format.
• The EC Secretariat’s Election Support-2 wing will issue instructions for printing the required number of photo voter lists.
• Senior district, sub-district and police station election officers will complete printing before nomination scrutiny.
When asked when printing would formally start, the NIDW chief said: “It is difficult to specify a date at this stage. The voter roll is very large, the work has begun and will continue as long as needed. We are moving forward as instructed by the commission.”
The voter roll was updated three times this year -- on Mar 2, Aug 31 and Nov 18.
