A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 37.95 decimal of land owned by former state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu in Gulshan.
The order was issued on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam, the petition was filed by Assistant Director Minhaj Bin Islam. The ACC informed the court that the plot in Gulshan is valued at approximately Tk 2 billion.
The petition stated that there was a possibility that the immovable property acquired in Nasrul's name might be transferred or disposed of through other means. Therefore, the seizure was deemed necessary in the interest of the ongoing investigation.
On Apr 20, the court ordered the seizure of a Priyo Prangon flat in Paribagh, three apartments in Banani’s PP Tower, and three vehicles, all belonging to Nasrul.
The total value of these properties was estimated at Tk 8.5 million, while the vehicles were valued at Tk 24.71 million.
In the same order, the court also froze 70 bank accounts allegedly held by Nasrul, which the ACC claims contain a combined total of Tk 379.6 million.
Earlier, on Feb 19, the court froze 20 bank accounts in the names of Nasrul and his wife Seema Hamid. A travel ban on the couple was issued on Jan 16.
Following the fall of the Awami League government, on Dec 26, the ACC announced a case against Nasrul over allegations of amassing illicit wealth.
His wife, Seema Hamid, and son, Zareef Hamid, have also been named in separate cases, with Nasrul listed as a co-accused.
