The administrative process to upgrade the salaries of headteachers in government primary schools from 11th grade to 10th grade has moved forward.
On Wednesday, the recommendation of the Secretary Committee on Administrative Development was sent from the Cabinet Division to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
The proposal was approved at the committee meeting on Dec 3.
GM Sharfaraz, deputy secretary of the Cabinet Division’s Administrative Development and Coordination Wing, told bdnews24.com: “The recommendation has been forwarded to the ministry to upgrade 65,502 headteacher posts.
“The ministry will now seek Advisory Council approval, issue the government order, and complete the formalities,” he added.
Following a High Court directive, the salaries of 45 headteachers were upgraded to 10th grade with gazetted officer status on Oct 27.
Building on this, the ministry has initiated the process to revise the pay for all 65,502 headteacher posts.
Earlier, the finance and public administration ministries approved the move in July and October, with final confirmation from the finance ministry’s Implementation Wing in November.
At the eighth meeting of the Secretary Committee on Administrative Development, the primary education ministry secretary presented the proposal, noting alignment with prior approvals.
The committee agreed that the pay revision could proceed.
In July, the ministry had said the upgrade fulfils a longstanding demand of headteachers and ensures parity between trained and untrained posts.
