Three days after the infamous loss to MS Dhoni’s men, Mashrafe and Co are still haunted by the loss.
“We’ve lost, it is still painful for us. People were hoping that it would be a good match; it wasn’t even that. Feeling sorry about that as well,” said Mashrafe to reporters on return to Dhaka on Sunday.
In the match, Suresh Raina survived a close lbw appeal and scored a crucial half-century. His partner Rohit Sharma, batting on 90, was reprieved by a controversial no-ball decision and went on to hit 137 to take game away.
When he was asked whether Bangladesh would have won if those decisions went their way, Mashrafe pointed to the timing of the decisions instead of the decisions themselves
“I would answer it differently. I believe, if we picked up wicket at that time, we could’ve won.”
The 31-year old, however, continued to avoid commenting on the controversial decision.
“You’ve all seen what happened. There is nothing new to say. Life does not stop. We will keep moving again.”
Apart from India, co-hosts Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have progressed to the last four of the competition.
Mashrafe puts Australia ahead to lift the cup.
“It is difficult to say who’ll win but I think Australia have better chances.”
