Speaking to bdnews24.com at Washington DC after the inaugural annual meet of the World Bank-IMF, he said that the upcoming visit of World Bank President Jim Yong Kim to Dhaka is a matter of pride for the country as it recognises Bangladesh's efforts at eradicating poverty.
He said that Bangladesh's efforts at poverty eradication is a 'success'.
Referring to World Bank data, he said that the proportion of people living in extreme poverty in the country has decreased from 18 percent of the total population in 2009-10 to 12.9 percent in 2015-16.
The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) make it imperative to bring extreme poverty levels below 3 percent.
Kim will be the fifth World Bank president to visit Bangladesh.
The finance minister said that the visit is a great publicity opportunity to highlight Bangladesh's success with fighting poverty.
