Netanyahu, Israeli politicians ‘hope Islamabad talks fail’
Israeli politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are seen as hoping the Islamabad talks fail, as it would allow continued military operations in Iran and Lebanon, according to analysts.

US loans 26mn barrels from strategic oil reserve to firms

He added that poorer countries are likely to be hit hardest due to weaker currencies and limited financial capacity to absorb higher costs.

Bank of England sees higher global inflation
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has warned that an energy shock linked to the Iran war will push up inflation in many countries and reduce the chance of interest rate cuts in the United Kingdom.

He said the war has created a difficult balance for central banks between controlling inflation and supporting growth, adding that expected UK rate cuts are no longer part of the central outlook.
Bailey said it is too early to set policy direction, with the Bank of England waiting to assess the impact on inflation and growth.

Oil prices have been steady in Asian trade as expectations of fresh US-Iran peace talks support market sentiment.
Brent crude rose about 0.3 percent to just above $95 a barrel, while US crude fell around 0.3 percent to just under $91.
US President Donald Trump has suggested talks could restart within days, though Tehran says it has no information on any agreed second meeting.
Markets had eased earlier after Trump said the White House had been contacted by Iran over a possible deal.
Asian equities also advanced, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 up about 1 percent and South Korea’s Kospi rising around 3 percent.

Israeli forces ‘razing’ south Lebanon villages ‘like Gaza’
Israeli soldiers have said the military is demolishing villages in southern Lebanon using methods similar to those employed in the Gaza Strip, according to Haaretz.
One soldier told the Israeli daily, “We’re behaving just like we did in Gaza,” adding that success is being measured by the number of buildings demolished each day.
The report said bulldozers are levelling villages near the border area to clear space for new military outposts, which soldiers described as appearing “permanent” in nature.
Israeli forces have reportedly advanced to a third line of villages, about 20km south of Lebanon’s Litani River.

Global economy already hit by war impact: IMF
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says the damage to the world economy from the US–Israel war on Iran has already begun, even if the conflict ends now.
At its Spring Meetings in Washington, the IMF warned that global growth would still slow slightly even under an immediate ceasefire.
It said prolonged fighting and further infrastructure damage could reduce global growth to around 2 percent this year, while pushing inflation above 6 percent next year.
The global lender added that oil-producing countries in the region would face the sharpest impact, while developing economies would suffer nearly twice the economic damage compared with advanced nations such as the United States.

US claims Iran sea trade halted as ships still cross Hormuz
The US says its naval blockade of Iranian ports is fully in force, but shipping data shows continued vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
BBC Verify analysis found at least four Iran-linked ships crossed the strait on Tuesday, including two that had visited Iranian ports after the blockade began.
Three other non-Iran-linked vessels also passed through after the measures took effect on Monday at 10:00 ET (14:00 GMT).
US Central Command chief Adm Brad Cooper said the blockade had “completely halted” sea trade into and out of Iran within 36 hours.
Earlier reports, however, indicated several merchant vessels turned back to Iranian ports after US instructions, while some Iran-linked ships altered course following the announcement.

Trump lashes out at Italy’s Meloni over war stance
US President Donald Trump has sharply criticised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni over her stance on the Iran conflict, saying he is “shocked” and had expected stronger support from a key ally.
In comments to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Trump accused Meloni of lacking courage for not backing US action on Iran and questioned Italy’s position on the escalating crisis.
“She is the one who is unacceptable,” he said, adding that Iran could pose a direct nuclear threat to Italy if it developed such capabilities.
