Iron fences can't fend off pollution

The canal flowing beside the new road at Hazaribagh's Kalunagar in Dhaka is filled with plastic waste. Despite the Dhaka South City Corporation's efforts to put up iron fences to prevent plastic waste being dumped at the location, there is so much waste dumped in it that the water is not visible.

No water, only waste-even in Monsoon

Once a major source of water, the Shubhadda Canal in Keraniganj, Dhaka, is barely a canal anymore. Instead of fresh water, nearly half of the 7-km long canal is overflowing with waste. Even in the middle of heavy rain, the canal is chock-full of plastic waste. The regular dumping of garment and market scraps is slowly turning it into a landfill.
