The fading glory of brass tableware
Once upon a time, brass and brass tableware was a common sight in almost every home. Some people would even give them as gifts for weddings or social events. Over time, the heavy, but durable and beautiful pieces of tableware have become less common. Nowadays these pieces are usually seen in Hindu homes or those of expensive tastes. When the demand for these pieces was at its peak, there were about 25 factories producing them in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar. As they have fallen out of favour, the number of factories has come down to eight. Some of these products are eventually exported abroad.
