Hatirjheel choked by pollution
Hatirjheel choked by pollution

Many people visit Hatirjheel in Dhaka to enjoy the open space, but the area has shrunk in appeal due to rising pollution. In different places, rubbish has discoloured the water, and a strong stench lingers in the air, accompanied by swarms of mosquitoes and flies.

Many of the Dhaka residents visit Hatirjheel spend some time in an open area or to walk around the lake. But now, an abundance of waste in the area has made it unsuitable as a place for people to sit down and chat or even spend some time. In some places, the waste is so prevalent that it has changed the colour of the water, which has become a breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes. A pungent stench fills the area and people have to cover their noses while crossing certain parts of the lake.
