Echoes of the Nawabs: Life around Dhaka’s historic Gol Talab
On the banks of the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka's Islampur stands the historic Ahsan Manzil -- the grand palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka. Right beside it is a circular pond known as Gol Talab. The word “Talab” comes from Urdu, meaning a reservoir or water body. It was dug in 1610 by Nawab Abdul Bari. To this day, the pond stands as a lasting symbol of the Nawabi heritage.
