Rio de Janeiro, Jan 11 (bdnews24.com) - Barcelona's Lionel Messi may have just been crowned the best player in the world for the third consecutive year but the Argentine still has some way to go to match the achievements of Romario, according to the Brazilian legend's son.
Romarinho, who is currently making a name for himself at youth level with Vasco da Gama, insists that while Messi is good, his father was better.
"After Pele, he was the best. Today, the best is Messi, but he is still not up to [the level of] my father," the youngster is quoted as saying by Sport, reports goal.com.
On Monday in Zurich, Argentine forward Messi was presented with the Fifa Ballon d'Or for the third year in a row.
Former Barcelona striker Romario, who claims to have scored over 1,000 goals during his long and illustrious career, was named the Fifa World Player of the Year in 1994, the year in which he inspired Brazil to World Cup glory in the United States.
