Dhaka, Jan 29 (bdnews24.com) – Muktijoddha Sangsad eye the trophy of the first-ever professional football league (B. League) when the Federation Cup champions start their campaign for the competition next month.
"Muktijoddha has set sight on the title of the professional football league," Muktijoddha's newly appointed captain Saifur Rahman Moni told reporters at a press conference at Bangladesh Football Federation Monday.
"I am convinced that the local collection of footballers in the team are strong enough to give a good fight against any participating team," said the national striker at a BFF-organised media introduction function of the club.
Muktijoddha Sangsad came into limelight in early 1990s when the All-Red outfit roped in star footballers emptying Abahani tent. The team saw success in 1997-98 season clinching the premier division title. Since then Muktijoddha formed star-studded team.
This year they brought back Motiur Munna, Alfaz Ahmed along with Armaz Aziz from Dhaka Mohammedan and pinned their hopes on old guns – Aminul Haq, Rajani Kanta Barman, Hasan Al Mamun, Firoj Mahmud Titu, Arman Mia, Azmol Hssain Biddyut, Rokonuzzaman Kanchan and Saiful Islam Moni.
Muktijoddha treasurer Ataur Rahman said that they had completed bilateral agreements with 19 players and was trying to sign up three Nigerians Obichi, Jeremiah and Ibo.
Ghanaian defender Ghansa, who played for Muktijoddha for three seasons, also will be seen on the field for the team, informed Rahman.
Coach Abu Yousuf said, "I have been working with the boys to guide them to the title. I also like to make game an entertaining one."
The team have started practice on January 15, but their practice is being hampered due lack of practice ground.
Replying to a query, the treasurer said, "Muktijoddha Sangsad is run by different committees in different times. The committees had the realisation that the team need to have a playground. But they could not buy a piece of land due to different complexities.
