Djed Spence aims to motivate young people across all faiths by potentially becoming the first Muslim to play for England's senior men's football team following his maiden call-up for the World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur full-back, previously capped six times at under-21 level,
joins Thomas Tuchel’s squad to face Andorra and Serbia, BBC Sport reports.
Spence's journey reflects resilience, having endured loan spells at Rennes, Leeds United, and Genoa before securing a regular spot at Spurs last season.
While the Football Association does not track players' religions, sources indicate Spence would mark a historic milestone if he debuts.
"It's a blessing - it's just amazing. I don't have the words really," the 25-year-old was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"I pray a lot, I give gratitude to God.
“In the toughest moments of my life, the darkest moments, I've always believed that God has always been by my side. It's a big thing for me, my faith."
England host Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, then travel to Belgrade for Tuesday's clash with Serbia.
Spence said he shrugs off religious pressure, focusing on enjoying his game while hoping to inspire children of all faiths.
