Dhaka, Jan 12 (bdnews24.com) – The government announced the list of public holidays for 2009 on Monday.
A total of 13 days have been set officially and 9 days on executive order, alongside elective days for respective religious rituals, for government staff and officials.

10 Mar Eid-e-Milad-un Nabi (Birth of the Prophet).
26 Mar Independence Day.
14 Apr Bangla New Year.
1 May Labour Day.
9 May Buddha Purnima.
7 Aug Shab-e Barat (Ascension of the Prophet).
13 Aug Sri Krishno Jônmashṭomi.
15 Aug Bangabandhu Assasination Day.
18 Sept Shab e-Qadr (Evening of Destiny).
21 Sep (3 days) Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan).
28 Sept Durga Puja (Vijaya Dasami).
28 Nov (3 days) Eid ul-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice).
16 Dec Victory Day (Bijoy Dibosh).
25 Dec Christmas Day
7 Nov National Revolution Day.
28 Dec & 8 Jan Ashura
Elective days-off*
Muslims will enjoy 5 elective holidays: 25 Feb for Akheri Chahar Shomba, 8 April for Fateha-e-Yazdaham, July 21 for Shab-e-Meraj, 23 Sept for Eid al-Fitr, 30 Nov for Eid ul-Adha.
The Hindu community will enjoy 7 elective holidays: 31 Jan for Saraswati Puja, 23 Feb for Shivratri, 11 March for Doljatra, 18 Sept for Mahalaya, 27 Sept for Nobomi, 3 Oct for Laxmi Puja and 17 Oct for Shyama Puja.
The Christian community will enjoy 8 elective holidays: Jan 1 for New Year, 25 Feb for Ash Wednesday, April 9-12 April for Easter, and 24-25 Dec for Christmas.
The Buddhist community will enjoy 5 elective holidays: 9 Feb for Maghi Purnima, 13 April for Chaitra Samkranti, 7 July for Ashari Purnima, 3 Sept for Modhu Purnima and 3 Oct for Probarona Purnima.
*Some of these holidays are subject to moon sighting.
